My name is Helen Trewin, founder of Truhart Staffordshire Bull Terriers. My husband Ray and I purchased our first Stafford in 1990 after many months of researching the breed to see if it would be a suitable companion for us and our two children then aged seven and twelve years.
We went along to the Royal Melbourne Showgrounds to a Championship show being held there, and fell in love, especially witht he reds. We knew this was the breed for us.
I spent a couple of months on the phone hounding the puppy listing coordinater(this was before the recorded message came in) Joan Morse (Lapwing) for a red female puppy. We were advised females are better for inexperienced owners.
Finally, one day we were in luck and we got our first Stafford, a beautiful little red girl from Selena Lynch, Triffstaff Heart'O'Gold (Elsie). We knew nothing about showing dogs and Ray wouldn't go in the ring so I decided to give it a go. I entered the Stafford Club of Victoria's members competition and came home with our first ribbon, (third place and proud as punch). And that was it! I was hooked, although Elsie had other ideas, such as staying home on the couch. She was to become the foundation of Truhart Staffords and took to maternal duties and relaxing around the house. Her first litter produced our first home bred Australian Champion Truhart Moonshadow (Molly). She was the only puppy born in the litter, which we promptly decided to keep.
Molly produced two lovely litters; our home boy Axel(1993) was from the first. Her second litter to Arlian Little Ace was to give us Champion Truhart Black Night (Mojo), Champion Truhart Wild Child (Hope) and Champion Truhart Twisted Sister (Jett), and the rest is history.
Mojo, our beloved boy who is behind many quality Staffords' pedigrees around Australia is greatly missed by us as he died prematurely due to an accident in December 2003. We kept his daughter out of Truhart Dark Crystal, Champion Truhart Night Shadow ( Ravyn) who had a short but succesful show career and produced from her first litter to Mojo, our old boy Champion Truhart Mojo Risin (Buckley) and Champion Truhart Lasting Night owned by David and Leanne Crawford (Angustaff). From her second litter she produced Champion Truhart The Tempest (Storm) out of Gr Champion Borstaff Snedrick Crumbb.
I am currently campaigning our kids from Storm's (sire Westrova Stoic Ironbark aka "Brew") last litter born mid 2011 and they are enjoying great success under Stafford Specialists, and allbreeds judges.
Throughout our years of being involved with Staffords we have endeavored to focus on quality breeding, selecting the lines that complement our type. We only breed from and with dogs that have eye clear certificates and are DNA tested clear of HC and L-2GH. We select new puppy owners that share our philosophy on Stafford care and love.
Our Staffords are all members of the family and share our house and bed. Our oldies always get the best possies in front of the wood heater in winter and the young ones enjoy have turns sitting on our laps for a cuddle.
We hope you enjoy browsing our site and seeing some of our kids.
